Black Basta Ransomware Warning

November 26, 2022

This is a general announcement sent to all Pacxa clients regarding the QakBot malware utilized by the Black Basta ransomware gang. These emails were found to include a .html or .htm attachment containing links to create a first point of entry and move laterally within organizations’ networks.

The findings were described in a new advisory published by the Cybereason Global SOC (GSOC) team, highlighting several Black Basta infections using QakBot beginning on November 14, 2022.

In an effort to safeguard your environment, your Pacxa Cyber Security Team is proactively addressing this threat by searching for emails with an .htm or .html attachment and quarantining the message.

The best defense against threats is education. Attachments might be viruses or spyware that download to your machine when you open the attachment file. Remember the “2 U’s”: If the email is Unexpected or Unsolicited, treat it with caution.

If you have already opened the attachment or clicked on questionable links, please contact the Pacxa Cyber Security Team at [email protected] or 808-791-5921. Include the title of the email and date/time the email was received. Do not forward or try to package the email.
