Pacxa Names Jean Schneider Executive Director of Workforce Development

Paid training program creates job opportunities, sustainable economy for HI

HONOLULU—Pacxa, Hawaiʻi’s premier technology solutions provider, today announced that Jean Schneider will lead its Workforce Development Program. The program’s goal is to develop a local talent pipeline into Hawai‘i’s tech sector, which supports all of the state’s industries. In collaboration with synergistic community efforts and contributing to the diversification of Hawai‘i’s economy, this program will provide training and employment for people who want to pursue tech careers.

“The decline in tourism caused by the pandemic has laid bare the economic challenges that have been brewing in Hawaiʻi for some time. Additionally, the move to remote work across all industries demonstrates the need for many Hawaiʻi organizations to modernize and accelerate their use of technology,” said Kelly J. Ueoka, President, Pacxa. “There is potential for our state to reinvent itself and to be competitive on a national and even global scale if we all work together.”

The Workforce Development Program provides mentoring, real on-the-job training, industry-recognized IT certifications, and career pathway planning. Currently, it is funded exclusively by Pacxa. The company hopes to galvanize the business community, academia, the state and counties, and other stakeholders to participate.

“Pacxa would like to provide opportunities for those who have lost their jobs, recently graduated from college, and others looking for a rewarding career in IT that will allow them to continually learn, and to earn sustainable living wages to live in Hawai‘i,” said Jean Schneider. “We also want to grow an advanced local workforce that can meet Hawai‘i’s current and future technology needs.” There are plans to continue to scale up the program to have a broad impact as quickly as possible.

“This effort requires partnerships between industry and academic institutions to ensure that students are prepared to hit the ground running in tech sector jobs,” said Ueoka. “Jean is ideally suited for this role given her extensive experience managing workforce and economic development programs, particularly in higher education settings in the state of Hawaiʻi.”

Jean comes to Pacxa from the University of Hawai‘i System where she was Associate Director for Sector Partnerships. In her newly created role at Pacxa, she will set the program’s direction and priorities. She will also act as a Workforce Development ambassador, liaising with various boards, academic institutions, and government entities to grow the program.
